Despite the general feeling of chaos on the northern roads, Thai drivers rarely get angry. Displays of anger go against Thai culture so drivers are rarely aggressive.
Nevertheless, here are a few Thai driving habits
to look out for if you are a new comer:
1/ You are waiting to turn right across traffic and
a vehicle coming towards you in the oncoming lane flashes its headlights at you. In the west, you would probably take this as a kind invitation to make the turn. In Thailand it means do not go because
I am coming through fast.
2/ You are in a traffic and there is also a queue of oncoming traffic that wants to turn right. You politely give way to allow one or two of the cars to make their right turn across you. The entire queue will squeeze bumper to bumper leaving you no space to continue until the entire queue has made their right hand turn.

A number to remember!
Losing keys can be a frustrating experience, especially if there are no spares inside or neighbors with spares.
As it happens often to all of us, it might be a good idea to have a telephone number to call in case of emergency. Mr. Sanga, whose shop is located close to Chiang Mai Gate, has provided a professional key cutting service in Chiang Mai for the past 10 years. He uses old and new methods, opens, repairs, services and makes keys in his workshop as well as at your door.
Mr. Sanga’s shop opens every day from 8am to 10pm. In case of emergency, you can call him and he will come to your home. He does not speak English, so it might be a good idea to pick him up at his shop if your house is difficult to find. Rates are very affordable.
