Adopting a Thai child
when you are living in Thailand

When living in Thailand, it is possible to go through the Thai adoption process without the aid of a private agency.
Even if the task of submitting a Thai adoption application can seems overwhelming, it is possible when taking one step at a time.
First step is to compile the necessary documents (Thailand adoption application and other adoption documents) in order to present them to the social worker at the Child Adoption Center in Bangkok. The next step will be to wait for the social worker to request a home study. When living in Chiang Mai, workers from the DSDW Chiang Mai office will visit you and will ask questions about your habits to you and your neighbors. The social worker might also take pictures for her report that she will complete and send for approval to the Child Adoption Center. If approved, you should be notified within a few months. You will then have to wait 9-12 months to be matched with a child. Note that, as more families want to be matched with a girl, the waiting list to adopt a boy will be shorter.
